A couple of weekends ago, I finally plucked up the courage to take myself ‘all the way’ down (from Euston) to Clapham for the Nike Training Club Live Class that happens every Saturday morning.
I’m in London one, maybe two, weekends a month and I’d seen the classes up on Facebook and had wanted to try one out for a while. They don’t run any in my hometown of Nottingham (I’m assuming due to the lack of Nike store) so had to wait for a free day in London to come around.
I’d put the feelers out on Twitter to try and find out what to expect and was informed that a couple of fellow 30 day ab challengers (@Angel_Dee and @Specialee would also be in attendance for thier first session. This was good – they’d be at least a couple of friendly faces.
Being terrified of unknown situations, compounded by the fact I’ve only been to Clapham once in my life (and I went nowhere near the Common), I had checked out the map, route, my journey time and logistics about five times over. But I turned up to the meeting point with just the right amount time to check in and receive my free NTC tshirt. Bonus!
The class started with some cardio as warm up, which in my current state of unfitness, was pretty hard. It really shouldn’t have been, and even though I was being over taken and finishing each drill last out of my little group, it really didn’t matter.
We then moved on to LOADS of other exercises covering pretty much every part of the body, working pretty much every muscle in me. It was damp underfoot, autumnal, so really slippery. We were on the floor quite a few times so getting muddy was inevitable – but definitely added to the enjoyment.
Overall my thoughts were: the instructor (Rory) was awesome, everyone was really friendly, the setting was great (probably helped that it was a gorgeous November morning – not so sure I’ll agree in a downpour) and the class is so varied and enables you to push you to your own personal limits.
Next time I’m down in London, I’ll definitely be going back, with bells on.
